Reproducing "Coat"
by
Designer Yohji Yamamoto Japanese
fall/winter 1986–87
Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto makes coats as an architecture for the body: he wanted the wearer to live in the garment and feel protected as in a house. His approach to fashion design is that of a dressmaker: he does not want to label his work as that of an artist.
This project encapsulates the reproduction of said coat, representing a pinnacle challenge in tailoring and undoubtedly the most intricate pattern I have ever crafted. Recreating this coat demanded not only technical precision but also a deep understanding of garment construction and fabric behavior which was carefully chosen to add a sense of less seriousness to my take.
From meticulously studying the original design to drafting and refining the pattern, every step required careful consideration and expertise. Ensuring the coat's proportions, details, and fit were faithfully reproduced involved countless adjustments and meticulous fittings. Each seam and stitch was scrutinized to maintain the integrity of the design while achieving a flawless finish.
In the following video u can see the details in this piece: for a more comfortable video watching I invite you to check my TikTok link to both videos: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGebmtvBn/ & https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGebmVMg8/

Green leather corset CORSET
Repairing and retouching a leather corset that suffered a ripped back, requiring the replacement of the eyelet panel, was both a meticulous task and a rewarding challenge. The initial damage called for careful assessment and precise execution to restore the corset's structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.

This unique corset showcases my ability to merge historical references with modern aesthetics through upcycling. Crafted entirely from thrifted biker tops, this piece reimagines the structure and design of women’s stays from 1795-1800, originally British in origin. The historical elements, such as gathered cups, back lacing, and partial boning, are adapted to a contemporary design language.
The corset features bold graphics and textures from the original biker garments, complemented by vibrant detailing, such as yellow piping and functional hardware. It retains traditional corsetry elements, like structured boning and precise pattern manipulation, while incorporating modern touches like visible zippers and industrial lacing techniques.
